Romanian Dental Awards - The Second Edition

The winners of the second edition of the "Romanian Dental Awards" were:

For the "Direct Restoration" category, Dr. Mădălin Simionescu, passionate about prosthodontics and restorative therapy and focused on high quality results. To help young doctors, he holds workshops on fillings and dental photography.

For the "Endodontic Treatment" category, Dr. Iulia Matei who, immediately after completing her studies in Dental Medicine at UMF Carol Davila in 2013, attended specialization courses in Endodontics at the same institution. At the same time she attended private courses in endodontic microsurgery to complete her knowledge. Her professional activity is limited to endodontics in a private clinic in Bucharest, and in her personal life, together with her dog, she forms a certified search and rescue team for missing persons.

For the "Aesthetic Dentistry" category, Dr. Cosmin Anițoiu, who graduated from UMF Carol Davila Bucharest in 2016 and who carries out his practice limited to prosthodontics and restorative therapy, in a private clinic in Bucharest.

For the category "Interdisciplinary Oral Rehabilitation", the team led by Dr. Alexandru Giurca. Within the interdisciplinary team, orthodontic treatment was performed by Dr. Christian Samoilă, surgical treatment by Dr. Marian Varvescu, preprosthetic treatment by Dr. Sebastian Fechete, prosthetic treatment by Dr. Alexandru Giurca, and prosthetic restorations by dental technicians Horațiu Șoaită and Ana Șoaită, all collaborating to provide the patient with a personalized and minimally invasive treatment.

For the "Implant-Prosthetic Treatment" category, Dr. Cristi Dumitrescu, a graduate of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" Bucharest, class of 2013, has oriented his career towards prosthetics and restorative dentistry. He is passionate about photography and magnification and finds the greatest challenge in trying to restore "unrestorable" teeth.

For the "Young Clinician" category, Dr. Bogdan Gligor, graduate of the 2018 class of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the "Victor Babes" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara. Since then he has been working focusing on dental prosthetics, dental therapy and prophylaxis, and since November this year he is a specialist in Dental Prosthetics.

The second edition of the Romanian Dental Awards gala will take place on the 9th of December at the Odeon Theatre, in the Majestic Hall.

We invite you to take part in a competition judged by a carefully selected committee, made up of dentists and academics, both nationally and internationally renowned.

Choose one of the 7 categories that will showcase your clinical skills and enter your case!

As last year, judging will be anonymous, objective and according to an internationally agreed scale.

The jury will nominate 3 finalists for each category, and the nominees will be invited to the event, where in 2 minutes each will publicly present their case.

For each category, the public attending the event will be asked to vote for their favourite, who will be rewarded with an iconic trophy and surprise prizes from our sponsors and partners.

Both the winners of each category and the other two shortlisted finalists will receive a certificate of nomination and a digital medal to display on their website, social media or any other digital space, the perfect way to showcase their achievements and recognition of a international event.

Participation in this event will be by invitation or registration.

Finalists are encouraged to invite as many supporters as possible to join them. The more supporters in the room, the more votes!

The event will conclude with a cocktail reception with the judges, competitors, sponsors and partners.

*The fee for entering a case in the competition is 200 RON until the 30th of July and from the 31st of July onwards it will become 300 RON.

**Included in the case entry fee is an invitation to the event. Participants who are chosen as finalists will receive an additional invitation to the event, so that they can be accompanied. If you are not chosen as a finalist, the invitation to the event remains valid.

GENERAL CRITERIA

All participants must have graduated from the Faculty of Dental Medicine or Dental Technology (depending on the section), and meet at least one of the following criteria: they must have Romanian or Moldovan citizenship (even if they practice dentistry in another country) or, if they do not meet the first criterion, they must have the right to practice dental medicine in Romania and/or the Republic of Moldova.

For multidisciplinary categories involving a medical team or in cases of indirect restorations requiring the involvement of a dental technician, the participating doctor will have to inform the whole team/technician of the participation in this competition and specify in the case description the precise contribution of each one in the planning and execution of the dental treatment.

It is the responsibility of the participants to ensure anonymity and doctor-patient confidentiality for the cases presented or to obtain the patient's consent to do so.

It will also be the responsibility of the participants to ensure the authenticity of the case. Any misappropriation of another colleague's case will be considered unethical and will result in the participant being disqualified and unable to participate in the event.

We encourage the exclusive submission of one's own case history, and if this involves a team of doctors and technicians, it is recommended that they are informed and agree beforehand. In the case of interdisciplinary treatments, the curative team will be rewarded and each doctor involved in the therapeutic act will be mentioned.

The methodology of the competition allows each participant to submit only one case per category. The same case cannot be submitted to two categories, just as the same author cannot submit two cases to the same category. Thus only one case per category will be allowed.

The same author may submit cases to compete in more than one category only if they have separate cases that meet the criteria for the chosen sections.

In the exceptional case where the entrant makes a mistake in placing the submitted case in the correct category, the jury may only re-submit the case to the correct category with the author's agreement.

The submitted cases must be presented in case report format and must contain a qualitative photographic documentation together with a detailed description in Romanian not exceeding 3500 words. Only one document/content/category is accepted, only in PDF format and with a maximum size of 100 mb.

In order to preserve the fairness of the competition and the objectivity of the judges, the submitted cases will be analysed with the anonymity of the author. We believe it may be impossible to designate a single winning case, so the jury will nominate 3 finalists for each category. After the jury's decision, they will be announced and invited to participate in the Romanian Dental Awards gala.

The 3 finalists will be chosen by each jury member giving a score from 1 to 10 for each case in each category. The top three in each category, listed by arithmetic average of the scores given, will be announced officially using multiple communication channels.

The top prize will be awarded transparently, through a public vote, which can only be exercised by people who will physically attend the award event. Finalists are encouraged to bring their supporters with them to celebrate being nominated as a finalist or winning the Grand Prize.

ENTRIES WILL BE SCORED ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

1. Diagnosis and treatment plan (Score: 1-10p)

2. Complexity of the case (Score: 1-10p)

3. + 4. Quality of case documentation, both images and text (Score: 1-10p)

5. Accuracy of execution of clinical manoeuvres (Score: 1-10p)

6. Low degree of invasiveness ( 10p being the lowest degree of invasiveness )

7. Quality of immediate outcome (Score: 1-10p)

8. Follow-up present (Score: 1-10p)

9. Stability of the result over time (maximum score can be 20p)

Total: Maximum 100p

*Note for all categories:

Clinical cases entered that deviate from the posted requirements and do not include all the mandatory images mentioned will be disqualified. Photo documentation is the main point of judging.
Cases/procedures involving dam isolation of the operative field, such as restorative dental treatments, endodontic treatments or stages of prosthodontic treatment, will be disqualified if they do not show proof of dam isolation by radiographs or intra-operative photos.
